Boqueixón presents the program of the 41st Lestedo “Filloa” Festival

The mayor of Boqueixón, Ovidio Rodeiro Tato, and the president of the “Filloa” Cultural Association, José Manuel Canabal, presented this morning at the CIFP Compostela vocational training centre the program of the 41st Lestedo “Filloa” Festival, which will take place in Boqueixón on Sunday, February 18. An event in which they were accompanied by the manager of the Galician Tourism Agency, José Antonio Casas Calviño, the director of the CFIP Compostela vocational training centre, Ramiro Esparís, along with the actress and presenter María Mera.

The mayor of Boqueixón expressed thanks for the work carried out by both residents and the “Filloa” Cultural Association “so that this culinary festival becomes the third Festival of National Tourist Interest in the province of A Coruña. We are convinced that it meets all the requirements.” He also highlighted the work of the residents of Lestedo, “who managed to place this town and this parish as one of the most important gastronomic festivals in Galicia”.

A thank you that was joined by José Manuel Canabal, who confirmed that “the Big Day will coincide with regional elections. It’s not the first time it’s happened, so we’re convinced that on Sunday we’re all going to make time to go and vote and, at the same time, come and savour some “filloas” in Lestedo.” Likewise, he confirmed that the 7th Grand Intermunicipal Parade of the Generals of Ulla will feature the participation of more than half a hundred generals and that “the “filloa”-making machines will start working at 8 am, with the capacity to make about 2,000 “filloas” every hour, and next to them there will be “filloa” cooks preparing all kinds of recipes: stone-cooked, stuffed, sweet…”.

Parallel Programming

Today marks the beginning intense weeks of promotion of the “Filloa” Festival. Thus, tomorrow, Friday, January 19, the period to participate in the 4th  “Filloarte” Photography Contest will open, where anyone can submit up to two images of “filloa” making, plated presentations of “filloas,” creations based on “filloas,” etc. The only limitation is that no identifiable people can appear in the image. Proposals must be submitted by February 11 to festadafilloadelestedo@gmail.com. The rules can be consulted on the website: www.festadafilloadelestedo.gal.

Next Thursday, January 25, the Lestedo “Filloa” Festival will be presented at FITUR, in an event organized in collaboration with GDR Terras de Compostela. And from 9 to 13 February, the traditional  “Filloa Gastronomic Days at the El Corte Inglés shopping centre” will take place, in whose cafeteria there will be free tasting of “filloas” for each drink from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, February 10, the 2ndFilloíña Festival” will take place, which will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Lestedo fairground with traditional games and performances by musical groups belonging to the Mestre Manuel Gacio Cultural Association. At 6:00 p.m., the children’s opening speech feature students of the CPI Antonio Orza Couto school. Fifteen minutes later, the rhymed verses of the “Generalitos y Generalitas del Ulla” Checkpoints will begin, ending with a free tasting of “filloas” for the children participating in the children’s costume contest. The day will end with a concert by Uxía Lambona and Banda Molona.

Finally, on Wednesday, February 14, a “Filloeira School” will take place in the Lestedo fairground, a “filloa” cooking show for boys and girls between 10 and 18 years old. And on Saturday, February 17, that same space will host the 2nd “Filloa Folk”, which this year will bring together Roibén (8:00 p.m.), Susana Seivane (9:00 p.m.) and A Requinta da Laxeira (10:30 p.m.) in the Lestedo fairground.

41st Lestedo “Filloa” Festival

Finally, the program of the 41st Lestedo “Filloa” Festival will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the switching on of the “filloa”-making machines, with the capacity to make about 2,000 “filloas” every hour. From 11:00 a.m., music will be provided by musical groups from the Mestre Manuel Gacio Cultural Association. At 12:00  p.m. the 7th Grand Intermunicipal Parade of the Generals of Ulla will take place in the fairground, where at 1:00 p.m. they will be followed by the opening speech featuring Javier Olleros, chef of the Culler de Pau Restaurant, with has two Michelin Stars. The event will be presented by the actress María Mera.

At 1:45 p.m. it will be time for the “Gran Alto de los Generals de Ulla” event, featuring rhymed verses as well as lots of irony and humour, centred on politics and current affairs. Throughout the day you will be able to taste various types of “filloa” recipes: stone-cooked, stuffed, savoury, sweet, thanks to the “filloa”-making machine… The vermouth session will feature Grupo Ibiza. And in the afternoon, the Origen group and Paris de Noia orchestra will star in the festival from 6:00 p.m. onwards.
