MAIN DAY

MAIN DAY

Piñata Sunday is the main day of Lestedo Filloa Festival. On this day, the town becomes a hive of visitors attracted by the star product and also by the varied programme of leisure proposals.

Thus, the program of the main day is based on four fundamental pillars: the tasting of Lestedo Filloas (with and without filling); the exaltation of traditions through the Carnival of the Generals of Ulla and the performances of traditional groups; the official inauguration of the event, with the proclamation and the imposition of the Aprons of Honor, and the open-air dance, featuring renowned orchestras and musical groups.

Tasting of Lestedo Filloas

On the main day of the Lestedo Filloa Festival, various spaces are offered where attendees can purchase the star product of this gastronomic exaltation. To this end, “filloeira” machines are installed in the Campo de la Fiesta, where you can buy packs of Lestedo Filloas.

In the same way, there is an area where “Filloas a la piedra” (filloas cooked on a stone) are on sale, and another place where you can taste stuffed Lestedo Filloas. To this end, a wide variety of fillings, both sweet and savoury, are offered to the public, demonstrating, once again, the versatility of the product.

As a novelty in the last two years, Lestedo’s social centre host the sale of gluten-free Lestedo Filloas. This is an option that many visitors have welcomed very positively, as it opens up the range of possibilities. In fact, in the 41st Lestedo Filloa Festival, the sale of savoury fillings was also included in this space.

Tradition

The tradition is represented on the main day by the Generals of the Ulla. In this regard, the VII Intermunicipal Parade was held at the 41st Lestedo Filloa Festival, which brought together more than fifty riders from the different municipalities of the Ulla region. In addition, the Generals of the Ulla also star in their satirical displays within the Lestedo Filloa Festival, as the culmination of the official opening of the event’s main day.

In addition, from early in the morning, the day features performances by traditional music and dance groups. The main exponents, in this aspect, are the members of the Mestre Manuel Gacio Cultural Association, which is based in the town of Lestedo.

Official Opening

The official opening of the Lestedo Filloa Festival takes place around 1.30 pm. This consists mainly of the opening speech, featuring in this forty-first year of the event by the 2-Michelin Star chef, Javier Olleros, together with the participation of the authorities attending the event (usually chaired by the mayor of Boqueixón and by the president of the Cultural Association of La Filloa).

This is followed by the awarding of the Lestedo Filloa Festival’s Aprons of Honour. In addition to the person in charge of making the proclamation, the organization includes other people who act as ambassadors of the event’s star product. In last year’s event, the former mayor of Boqueixón, Adolfo Gacio, and the head of Food Safety of the Association of Celiacs of Galicia, Nuria Colmenero, were added to the list.

Open-air dance

Another of the attractions of the main day of the Lestedo Filloa Festival is the open-air dance, starring renowned orchestras and musical groups. These are responsible for enlivening both the vermouth session and, especially, the evening. One of the orchestras that is usually present as a headliner within the celebration is París de Noia, which has a large number of fans inside and outside Galicia. Not surprisingly, thousands of people stay to enjoy his performance, which normally puts the finishing touch to the celebration in this town of Boqueixón.
