ACTIVE TOURISM

In addition to being well known as a place of legends mentioned in the Codex Calixtinus, Pico Sacro is also becoming renowned in relation to active tourism. Boqueixón Town Council, in collaboration with the Galician Speleology Federation, is developing a programme of descents into Pico Sacro caves.

This experience will take you inside this sacred hill, so that you can discover the white quartz of which it is made. These descents into Pico Sacro caves began to be organised after the inside of the chasm was thoroughly cleaned. This enables visitors to reach as far as the point where both caves meet, with their entrances being located on opposite faces at the top of Pico Sacro.

The first descents included in these initiatives, which are combined with explanations on the uniqueness of this historic, natural, and cultural site, were very well received. Therefore, if you like speleology and want to get started with this activity, the descent into the Pico Sacro caves is a highly recommendable option.

On the other hand, Boqueixón also features other possibilities for enjoying active tourism. During the summer, the town council promotes sports and adventure days with descents in kayaks along the Ulla River, starting out from the area of the Ínsuas de Gres islets.

Finally, wine tourism enthusiasts can also enjoy this aspect of active tourism by staying in the municipal district’s wine tourism accommodations. You can also enjoy sightseens of recently planted vineyards located in the parish of Donas.
